Hiking Trails From Janjanbureh

The hiking trails around Janjanbureh grew out of connections formed during the first Kankurang Festival. The festival brought international visitors into the region, some of whom returned to explore the landscape more deeply and spend time beyond the town.

The hiking trails around Janjanbureh grew out of connections formed during the first Kankurang Festival. The festival brought international visitors into the region, some of whom returned to explore the landscape more deeply and spend time beyond the town.

One returning visitor worked with local guides to map and develop a series of hiking trails on and around the island, drawing on river paths, open countryside, forested areas, and village routes. These trails are now part of the wider Community-Based Tourism offer.
