Cash Collection on McCarthy Island

Cash really IS king here

It is strongly advisable to plan your cash access before travelling to Janjanbureh.

As of winter 2025, debit and credit cards are not accepted on McCarthy Island, and withdrawing cash locally is limited. Preparing in advance will make your stay far easier and more relaxed.

Prepare Before You Travel

  • Set up a money transfer app before leaving your country

  • Some services require registration via a laptop or desktop, not just a phone

  • Several international services only have collection points on the coastal area, not on the island

Exploring and installing apps before departure is essential.
